Mommy Confessions; Part 1

Disclaimer:  Let me start by saying I do my best every single day to be the best mom I can be.  I am also confident that I do a pretty good job of that.  But I'm human.  I make mistakes and I am writing this hoping that those reading it will set judgement aside and realize that I would never purposely put my children in danger or hurt them.  Nor would I exploit my imperfections within something I work so hard at if I felt like they would be used against me.  I am writing this hoping to make ONE other parent feel better about "those days" or those times they have reached their breaking point.  We have all been there.  Sometimes it's because of the kids, sometimes they are the straw that breaks the camel's back but either way, it happens.  I'm not going to pretend like I'm proud of these things... that's why they are called "confessions" but I know I'm not the only one and I'm here to tell you that neither are you.

So here is what happened:

It had been a long day.  Arriah is very much a 2 year old, testing every boundary and perfecting her pronunciation of the world "no".  Gavin is a mommy's boy at this stage of his life so I need to be holding him or within a 5 foot radius at all times.  Sweet but exhausting.  I try so hard to be the bigger person but by bedtime all my patience cards have been played.  I really just feel like throwing something sometimes.

So tonight, I did.  A beanbag chair at my daughters head.  Not out of anger.  Relax...   She thought it was hilarious, and it was.  And it was gentle... at first.  But then the more I did it, the harder she laughed.  So I stepped up my game.  She was jumping on her bed (which she has gotten numerous time-outs for) and I decided to turn this into a friendly variation of bowling.  Let's see if I can knock her down with the beanbag chair.  And I did.  And it was just as hilarious as you would imagine.  She was full belly laughing and throwing the chair back (See? It's a small chair) saying "Again! Again!" This went on for about 30 minutes and, guess what?  After that, I felt so much better.  She had fun and so did I.  No one got hurt or close to it.  That was never the intention.  Am I proud for getting so much enjoyment out of trying to knock my daughter down with a beanbag chair? No, but it was exactly what I needed so I'm not sorry.

It just goes to show, sometimes you need to be unorthodox with your anger management.  Switch things up to get through the day.  This will not be a game we play regularly but whenever I get sad or frustrated, I will watch that video (of course I took a video) and laugh just like I did tonight.

So there is my first Mommy Confession.  There are more that I will continue to share along the way.  Some funny, some not so much but parenting definitely has a learning curve and sometimes we all have to learn the hard way. Or nail a 2 year old with a beanbag chair.

Bulls-eye

See? She thinks it's hilarious.

"Again mommy! Again!"
